Club evenings are held regularly during the winter and occasionally over the summer ... Different instructors, covering a variety of topics, partly teach riders but also address the audience in the mounted sessions for example 'On the Aids' discussed what the concept meant and more importantly how it is achieved. Specialist speakers are invited for the unmounted sessions subjects covered have included, Pilates for Riders, Feeding Your Horse, An Evening with... the Dressage Judge. Members and friends are encouraged to attend. Training & Exams. The Riding Club Movement has two sets of exams each in 4 stages ... Horsecare are the stable management tests and the Equitation are riding orientated. Unlike the BHS stages these examinations are of no commercial value but are fun to prepare for and take, whilst providing a measure of achievement and a goal to work for. Our Training Officer is always ready to help and advise and will organise training and examinations as requested. Club Competitions. We hold regular small dressage competitions, indoors during winter and outdoors in summer, these are limited to club members and give a valuable introduction to novice riders and / or young horses in a calm, friendly atmosphere... To add a bit of a challenge we operate a points systems and divide the riders into 3 leagues according to their ability with rosettes on the day and trophies at the end of the year for the most successful combinations. Possibly a unique feature of our competitions is that there is only one 'class' but a choice of tests everything form Preliminary to Advanced, makes for interesting judging! the winner are decided on best percentage from up to to two tests. Thus as frequently happens a more advanced combination can be beaten by a lower level rider. Jumping practice sessions are also held, again valuable experience for the inexperienced among us. Teams. The British Riding Club movement divides the country into Areas - HCTG is in Area 4... Each Area organises a number of annual interclub competitions culminating in the National Championships for qualifying teams and individuals. Details of the requirements and a calendar of Area / national events can be found here.
We do not have the specialised interest required for the Quadrille or the Team of Six but our previous Chairman was part of the medal winning British Rural Riders team in 2000.
If you are interested in being part of the club's teams then please download and forward the members competition interest form and send to the address on the form. Events/Shows. Our major event each year, which is open to non-members, whose emphasis is on the quality of presentation and organization...
Previously, we have also run an:
Unaffiliated Dressage competitions, Combined Training and Hunter Trials have also featured in out Calendar of Events. As with all competitions these require a lot of work and all members are expected to help at 2 or more events each year, in order to help raise the money which funds their own clubs activities.
