Club dressage competitions run most months throughout the year apart from a short break over summer.

Weekend competitions are run by Ruth Lofts (07500 951150) at Harrogate Language and Riding Centre (HEC) and are open to members and non members.

Sue Emsley (01423 869414) runs the weekday competitions at Jodphurs on a Tuesdays between 12 and 4pm.

We also run summer competitions at different venues sometimes on grass and later in the afternoon / early evening.

Normally there are a number of tests to choose from: 2 preliminary, 2 novice, 2 elementary and any medium or above of the competitor’s choice. Any competitor may ride up to two tests per horse.

At these competitions members compete in one of three leagues on a ‘pick a test basis’. Rosettes are awarded at each competition and points are earned towards the annual dressage leagues.

Entry fees are great value with a further discount if you ride two tests.

Dressage League

The dressage leagues are an annual points competition, with a perpetual trophy for each league being awarded at the end of the year for the horse/rider combination with the most points gained in Club dressage competitions. The top six in each league are presented with their awards at the AGM and awards evening.

Members are placed in one of three Leagues based on set criteria. Adjustments may be made for members whose experience is initially unknown by the organisers during the year.

The winners of Leagues 2 and 3 will automatically move up to the next league for the following year.

Any change in qualifications during a club year will not take effect until the start of the next full year.

Points are awarded as shown below for each competition, but members who compete in both weekend and midweek competition in the same month will only get points for the first competition.
